Thanks to the path of the PeopleMover, guests could appreciate just how much Tomorrowland had improved. Disney invested a lot of money in modernizing the futuristic themed land. The PeopleMover had been carefully designed to ensure that its path would carry guests by the many new and recently improved attractions at Tomorrowland. At the time the mechanical wheels hosted in the tracks was cutting edge transportation technology. PeopleMover, Presented by Goodyear or PeopleMover for short debuted on July 2, 1967, barely 18 months after the 1964 New World’s Fair closed (in October of 1965). It seems that although there are indeed remnants of the PeopleMover still in place at Disneyland Park, the plans would be to remove or change this considerably, essentially starting fresh to create a completely updated PeopleMover. It is not expected that the track would be used which is actually still in place above Autopia and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The length would also be adjusted to make it shorter. If the PeopleMover were to return, the rumor is that it will have a "budget conscious" ride system using "widely available ride technology". July 13 - Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park is set for a huge transformation over the next few years and there has now been a rumor that the iconic PeopleMover could make a return to Disneyland Park. Let us know if you want to see PeopleMover return to Disneyland Park by voting in our poll below. We will keep you posted on any further information we hear regarding the PeopleMover at Disneyland on our news and Facebook pages. Since Disney announced a number of updates of what fans can expect at Disneyland Resort in the coming years including Avengers Campus' New Multiverse Themed E-Ticket Attraction Will Feature King Thanos, Two Long-Awaited Character Meet and Greets Are Coming To Disneyland’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and Avengers Campus’ New Giant Hulk Offers A Glimpse At The Future Of Character Meet And Greets, it doesn't look likely that transforming the PeopleMover is currently part of its plan for the future. The original rumor that it could be making a comeback was floated back in July and since then nothing has been confirmed or denied by Disney. Well the simple fact is that it wasn't mentioned. But first, I had to transition onto the moving walkway from the stationary entry point.UPDATE September 12 - Many fans of the PeopleMover at Disneyland were hoping for an update on Disney's plans for this much loved attraction at the D23 Expo which took place over the weekend in Anaheim. To get to a PeopleMover ride vehicle, you must travel up a long, steep, moving walkway called a speed ramp to the ride’s boarding platform. However, the most challenging part of the ride for me with a mobility disability was what followed next. I used my cane for stability and walking assistance when I approached the turnstile at the attraction entrance. Riding Up A Long, Steep, Moving Walkway Called A Speed Ramp A Cast Member suggested this to us, which made it much less of a hassle. I had already parked my ECV, sat down on a nearby bench, and waited for him near the entrance. My son got into the line, and once he got to the front, I joined him. When I went to Disney World last year, that’s what I did. Once they get to the front entry position, the Cast Member will allow you to join your party. Turnstile At The Entrance To The PeopleMover Inclined Moving WalkwayĪlternatively, you could wait just outside the ride entrance while someone in your party goes through the queue. The only mobility aids that will fit through the turnstile are canes and crutches. Then you’ll need to walk back to the ride entrance to pass through a turnstile. However, once you get to the ride entrance, you must leave the scooter, wheelchair, or rollator in an area designated by a Cast Member. You can wait in line with your mobility aid. The line is outside, with some of the area covered and some exposed to the elements. The queue for the PeopleMover is your typical switchback waiting line. Hence, you’ll have to decide if you have the mobility required to ride this attraction. As I continue, you’ll understand why this is the case after providing you with all the details. Some Disney World PeopleMover attraction segments do not accommodate those with mobility disabilities. Some Segments Of The PeopleMover Are Not Very Accommodating To Those With Mobility Disabilities Refer to my blog post, “Guide For Guests With Disabilities,” for additional information. In other words, you must be mobile enough to walk to and from the ride vehicle. As noted above, you MUST BE AMBULATORY to access the PeopleMover. For brevity in this post, let’s refer to the ride as the PeopleMover. In this post, I will discuss the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at the Magic Kingdom, providing tips for Guests with Mobility Disabilities.
